Ulrike Sievers | Saturday – Wednesday, 2.45 – 4.15 pm
We will explore how images can help us / our students to create stories and at the same time develop their language skills as well as their understanding of grammatical phenomena.
We will try out how different text formats can be used for different topics and purposes: including various forms of texts from SMS to written stories and poetry as well as audios and images.
We will discover how language teaching and learning can contribute to the pupils’ media literacy and maturity in meaningful ways without losing the focus on an empathetic understanding of the other and the world.

IV.36 »Voices of Freedom«: Exploring the Topic of Slavery in 9th Grade
Tatjana Pavlov-West | Saturday – Wednesday, 4.45 – 6.15 pm
In 9th grade at Waldorf schools, the topic of slavery is often a key part of English lessons. In this course, we will explore the history of slavery with a focus on the transatlantic slave trade and its impact on individuals and societies. Through a variety of age-appropriate texts, historical sources, and personal slave narratives, pupils can develop a deeper understanding of the human experiences behind historical events. Themes such as freedom, human dignity, and social justice will be explored via creative exercises that support a deeper, holistic understanding of the issues. Special attention will be given to empathy, critical thinking, and respectful dialogue when engaging with this sensitive topic. Emphasis will be placed upon teaching strategies that enhance both language skills and awareness of historical and social issues.
